A raw, fresh, haunting, emotionally and sexually honest literary debut.

When Echo’s father gets swept away by a freak current off the Los Angeles coast, she finds herself sinking into a complete state of paralysis. With no true friends and a troubled relationship with her mother, the failed young actress attempts to seek solace in the best way she knows: by losing herself in the lives of strangers. When by chance Echo meets a dominatrix called Orly, it finally feels like she might have found someone who will be nurturing and treasure her for who she is. But Orly’s fifty-something houseboy, Piggy, isn’t quite ready to let someone else share the intimate relationship he’s worked so hard to form with his mistress.

Permission is a love story about people who are sick with dreams and expectations and turn to the erotic for comfort and cure. As they stumble through the landscape of desire, they are in a desperate search for the answer to that sacred question: how do I want to be loved?

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Title: Daisy Jones & The Six

Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid

My Rating: ★★★★☆

Everyone knows Daisy Jones & The Six, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now.

Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things.

Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.

Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.

The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.

Valentine’s Day Romance Novels Haul

rom1.jpg

Love to Hate You by Jo Watson: Sera is usually a good girl. (Except for one wild night in the backseat of a stranger’s car!) But what happens when that bad boy turns out to be her new boss?” Now that I’m reading this blurb I’m not so sure if I’ll enjoy this book… Based on the title I had an impression that this will be about a hate-to-love relationship. I’m slightly put off by the usage of ‘good girl’ in the blurb. Ah, what was I thinking when I bought it… Dirty Like Me by Jaine Diamond is a romance between a barista and a rockstar, where Katie wins a role in a new music video of a hot music star. The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory is author’s second book, and after great The Wedding Date my expectations are high for this novel. This story is about a very public proposal that didn’t turn into a happy ending.

I bought two books from Lauren Layne series 21 Wall Street – Hot Asset and Hard Sell.

BOOK TRAVELING THURSDAY: Book Lovers Day

It’s Book Traveling Thursday! It is a weekly meme hosted by Catia and Danielle. At the beginning of each month, they post a list of weekly themes. After choosing a book that fits the theme, you look at different covers of various editions and write your blog post with the original cover, the covers from your country, your favourite cover, and your least favourite cover. To find out more check out Goodreads group!

This week’s theme is Book every book lover should read. National Book Lovers Day was two days ago… choose a book you think every book lover should read. My first thought was Harry Potter – duh! But I reckon that majority of book lovers already read that, and it’s just too obvious. Everyone loves Harry Potter, and everyone should read it, it’s simple. I don’t have to be the nest person telling you to read it if you haven’t. So I wanted to choose something else for this theme. So I think hat every book lover should read a book that is celebrating books and reading. One of such books that I can recommend is The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin.
