Synopsis from Goodreads:

Larry was just your regular caribou, who was cruelly excluded from his crew. He and his kin happened to be the sole Jewish reindeer in the North Pole. Larry was bullied and treated the worst way, until his plan saved one Christmas Day.

A contemporary satirical take on Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Schmuck the Buck introduces Larry, a young Jewish reindeer. He overcomes his awkward and sometimes painful youth to save Christmas. His tale of acceptance and inclusion is sure to warm the hearts of anyone who loves Christmas, Hanukkah, or both. Sixty pages of vibrant illustrations bring his story to life. A unique modern addition to any holiday library.

I received this book from author for a review. All opinions are my own.

It’s hard to review 60 page illustrated book which text could probably fit max 5 pages… But I’ll try anyway 😉

Schmuck the Buck is a second book by author who calls himself EXO Books, and like his previous book it’s illustrated and gives us a social commentary, but unlike the previous this one is not sci-fi and has humorous tone. Schmuck the Buck is vividly illustrated story told in short poetry bits. It’s reinvented story of reindeer Rudolph. So obviously it’s about Christmas… It’s September so I think it’s way to early to think about Christmas, but here we are…

I absolutely adored The Last Day of Captain Lincoln so it’s so hard for me to judge this book without any lingering expectations set by previous book. This book just isn’t The Last Day of Captain Lincoln and wasn’t meant to be anything like this. But I wish it had more of the story of sci-fi book, I would enjoy it much more.

Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about this book. Just the timing was good enough for me to truly enjoy it (I have it scheduled for re-read in December). I believe it would be a great holiday present, great for your Jewish friends, as it’s story about Santa’s Jewish Reindeer after all. If you’re looking for work Secret Santa gift – this book is perfect!
