BOOK TRAVELING THURSDAY: The inside is what matters…

It’s Book Traveling Thursday! It is a weekly meme hosted by Catia and Danielle. At the beginning of each month, they post a list of weekly themes. After choosing a book that fits the theme, you look at different covers of various editions and write your blog post with the original cover, the covers from your country, your favourite cover, and your least favourite cover. To find out more check out Goodreads group!

This week’s theme is: choose a book with an ‘ugly’ cover but that is beautiful on the inside. It turns out that there isn’t a lot of books that have a really ugly cover that I liked, and I promise that good looking cover is not a reason for me to rate a book high! I found a book that has a cover that is not very ugly, but I don’t like it that much – Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The cover of book I checked out from library is not that attractive and there are other cover designs that are so much prettier!

As teenagers in Lagos, Ifemelu and Obinze fall in love. Their Nigeria is under military dictatorship, and people are fleeing the country if they can. The self-assured Ifemelu departs for America. There she suffers defeats and triumphs, finds and loses relationships, all the while feeling the weight of something she never thought of back home: race. Obinze had hoped to join her, but post-9/11 America will not let him in, and he plunges into a dangerous, undocumented life in London.

Thirteen years later, Obinze is a wealthy man in a newly democratic Nigeria, while Ifemelu has achieved success as a blogger. But after so long apart and so many changes, will they find the courage to meet again, face to face?

Fearless, gripping, spanning three continents and numerous lives, ‘Americanah’ is a richly told story of love and expectation set in today’s globalized world.

Not sure if this is the original cover. In this case this is the cover of book I had.

The 10th anniversary edition is absolutely gorgeous!

I feel like I entered a parallel dimension 😂 The original cover is one of my absolute favourites, while the ones you mentioned as your faves are really not my thing hahaha. In any case I love this book! ❤
