‘Books to read under Trump Administration’ Book Haul

Haymarket Books prepared a list of books to give to radicals in your life. Books that may help them change their opinions, help them understand you. After events of 2016 I think it’s especially important to read and learn about politics and history. To learn how to view our world to understand it and change it for better. Haymarket is offering 50% off the books on the list, so go and buy them! Click here to go to their page.

I had a look at their list and I just couldn’t resist buying some. I decided on three books.

Socialism . . . Seriously. A Brief Guide to Human Liberation
by Danny Katch

Buy on HaymarketBooks. View on Goodreads.

A funny and accessible introduction to socialism.

Socialism seems like a scary world. I was called socialist, and it was used as an insult. But I don’t really know if I’m socialist, what exacly does it mean. I want to read this book to learn what socialism is, and who it’s so scary to some people.

Hope in the Dark. Untold Histories, Wild Possibilities
by Rebecca Solnit

Buy on HaymarketBooks. View on Goodreads.

Solnit reminds us of how changed the world has been by the activism of the past five decades.

I bought this book because it’s a very good price and I loved Solnit’s  ‘Men Explain Things to Me’. So I’m sure that this book is full of interesting and though provoking essays that I need to read.

Splinterlands
by John Feffer

Buy on HaymarketBooks. View on Goodreads.

Julian West, looking backwards from 2050, tries to understand why the world and his family have fallen apart.

This seems to be a truly scary dystopian novel. Dystopia that may become our reality.

Any books that you could recommend that fit the theme? If you buy any books from the Haymarket list – let me know, I’m curious what you chosen.

Also, this post is just me sharing what a deal I found and what I bought. I’m not profiting from this in any way. Well, I might be profiting if you buy any of the books from the list and they inspire you to change the world, and make it a happy and safe place. I’d love to profit like this from promoting those books.

  1. TeacherofYA says:

You might want to read about socialism from both sides of the aisle…because that book sounds pro-socialism and it will only have a positive view. I’m not saying that’s wrong, but if you want a full picture, I would pick a book like Socialism for Dummies because those books are unbiased and explain the pros and cons to a very controversial government setup.
Good luck reading! You got so,e heavy material there! 😉
